UGTL 6 is right around the corner on Saturday, April 24th. It’s new location is the swank Rec Center Studio in Echo Park. Meat Bun will be on hand, and we are personally inviting you to come hang out with us. See you there!

Soon you’ll be chatting away, hitting on Leigh Alexander (or Mike depending on how you swing).  You’ll be feeling so damn good you might even almost miss the new yet-to-be-released deluxe Meat Bun shirts available.  But you will most definitely notice the music stylings of our good friend, Mike Z., a.k.a Special Attack.

The Golden Gopher is a swank spot worth the trip alone.  Add some tasty libations on our dime, and you ain’t got no excuse to miss this.  So head downtown on May 31st and we’ll see you there.

Wow, just now finally able to catch my breath.  Things have been a whirlwind as of late.

We last left you with an invite to the MOCA to celebrate the release of SF4 (on Capcom’s dime, of course).  Holy shit, dude… we didn’t think ALL of you would show up.  It was a madhouse!  It got so bad our friend/guest artist Steve Barron, who worked his ass off for three days on our Akuma-themed cabinet, was denied entry.  Fire-marshals with axes were calling the shots.  By 8:30 PM, if you were outside, you were toast.  At least you were in good company.  G4 couldn’t even get back in.

Then we headed to the annual fashion trade show in Vegas, MAGIC.  Las Vegas is funny.  It’s the city you are most excited going to, and the most excited to leave.  At least we got to hang with Greg and Ease from Mishka, and Simone from Tokidoki.  We also got to see one hell of a burlesque show at Forty Deuce (on Ben Sherman’s dime, of course).

Back in LA, I ran into Greg and Ease in front of Johnny Cupcakes (with Johnny himself) on Melrose.  They extended an invite to their little going away party before they fled back to NYC.  Luckily they left behind their personal DJ, Gina Turner.  Not only did she rock the house that evening, she protected it brilliantly from an onslaught of underage ravers.  By dropping the beat and turning on the lights, she snapped them out of their K-holes and shipped them right out the door.

Come, party with us as we welcome the arrival of Street Fighter IV. Yes, Capcom has finally accomplished the unthinkable, a fourth proper entry in the Street Fighter series. To celebrate this Herculean endeavor, Capcom is throwing itself a little party, one filled with all the things that make parties so enjoyable — live performances, Japanese video game developers and arcade cabinets.

One of those arcade cabinets will be redesigned, reinterpreted, and possibly rendered unplayable by Meat Bun, one of the many artists and fashion labels taking part in the event. Appearances from DJ Qbert, The Knux and Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono promise to make this the best video game launch party you’ll attend all year. Capcom Unity has even more details.

The Street Fighter festivities will throw down at the Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, February 12th, 2009, from 8 PM to midnight. Make sure to RSVP to the proper Capcom e-mail address if you plan on attending. We’ll see you there!

I know, I know. It’s supposed to stay there, per Las Vegas law. But at least my original iPhone stayed there, liberating itself from my windbreaker somewhere between Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 party at Planet Hollywood and wherever it was I wound up that night.

Speaking of Resident Evil 5, I played it on a six-story display. Co-op! Photos obviously don’t do the spectacle justice, nor am I trading in my 1080p LCD for a Vegas hotel facade and a pair of professional grade projectors, but it was worth braving the cold — it’s brisk in the desert in January. But, if you have the means, I highly recommend it. It is so choice.

How’s the game? Good, as far as I know. I’ve only played the same demo area again and again and again, so my experience is pretty limited. And, to be honest, the gin and tonics provided by Capcom rendered my latest impressions of shooting not-zombies in the face hazy. Regardless, I’ll be there day one.

Last Friday, Capcom held the second of its Street Fighter Club events, this time in Brooklyn at Chief Bodega. We partnered with Capcom on the theme, one that matched conveniently with the pre-Halloween event. We decided to focus on classic Street Fighter imagery, the effects of someone being electrocuted by Blanka (or Necro and Urien, for the Street Fighter III heads) which gives the player a look at the bony innards of the world’s warriors.

We wanted the t-shirt and poster design to have that rough Misfits/Cramps vibe, ultimately settling on a stark black and white silhouette of Guile getting the high voltage treatment. Only 250 hardcore Street Fighter fans got their hands on this exclusive design, but we may be able to find a way to get some into the hands of anyone who didn’t get their hands on one at the NYC event.

In addition to Meat Bun tees and posters, Club attendees got their hands on laser-etched Guile dog tags, Street Fighter IV headbands (to complete your Ryu cosplay), Street Fighter soap(!), Dragon Punch energy drinks(!!), and armfuls of Capcom and Meat Bun flotsam. Speaking of awesome products…

The I Am 8-Bit crew put together some excellent faux product for the Chief Bodega store front, including Dhalsim’s Yoga Fire and Yoga Flame instant curry, Edmond Honda Seasoned Salt, Hadouken lighters and even Shadaloo Kick Aspirin. Hundreds of frame-counting kids lookin’ to get their hands on Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix early waited for hours in line to be the first ones in.
