Happy E3 everyone! To celebrate a great week of video games (and to make room for all the new stuff we have coming to the store), everything in the Meat Bun shop has been marked down to 50% off! O_O!!!

There are limited sizes and colors available right now, but if you’ve been waiting for things to get super cheap before investing in, say, a Snack Attack tee or that Eggplant Wiz shirt you’ve been eyeing for a very very long time, now’s your chance. Seriously, stock is in the single digits on everything here, so don’t wait!

Tons of new stuff is coming after E3, so stay tuned!

  • A Preview Of The Year 20XX…

    Posted: 02/14/2011

We’ve been hard at work on the next line of Meat Bun goods for some time and we’re almost ready to show them in the flesh. But first we want to offer a brief preview of the inspiration behind the line, “The Year 20XX,” which will be arriving at the online store soon.

After going a little medieval with Wizards ‘n’ Warriors last year, we decided to look to the future. For that is where you and I will spend the rest of our lives… So what futuristic games do we love? And which sci-fi classics inspire us?

One of my personal favorites is Capcom’s Forgotten Worlds, released in arcades in 1988. This side-scrolling shoot ‘em up felt like nothing else at the time, sporting a unique control scheme featuring a big rotating button and two memorable, but unnamed protagonists: P1 and P2. We’ve talked about doing something with the game’s War God since the inception of Meat Bun, but we finally found the right artist for the job.

Another great character, Space Channel 5′s Ulala. Maybe unwavering love for the Dreamcast made us fall in love with the future’s hippest space reporter, but United Game Artists gorgeous design for Ulala was probably the thing that won us over. We really dig the swinging ’60s characteristics of Ulala and have always wanted to do something Space Channel inspired.

F-Zero was one of the first Super Nintendo games I ever owned, one that I spent hours upon hours with, whittling down my lap times on Death Wind. I’ve always been a fan of non-traditional racing games, whether they’re the futuristic hover cars of WipEout and F-Zero or the speedboats of Hydro Thunder. And Meat Bun loves classic racing imagery. So maybe you can see where this is going…

One last-minute addition to the line is Star Fox inspired. Or maybe it’s Super FX Chip-inspired. Old-school polygonal graphics, the kind of stuff seen in games like S.T.U.N. Runner, Steel Talons and Star Fox, brings back great memories, just like pixelated 8-bit sprites do.

Of course, we have more planned for The Year 20XX than just stuff inspired by the above. Keep an eye peeled for more news soon.

  • What are we talking about in 140 characters or less this week? Our love of Hsien-ko (aka Lei Lei) from Darkstalkers, the latest confirmed addition to Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. Did we mention we did a really swell tee for Capcom for MVC3? Yes, we sure did.

Speaking of Capcom, I wonder if they consider Blanka’s day job to be canon. As a meter maid of this caliber, he’d fit right in in Metro City.

On the arcade front, get familiar with the latest Elevator Action… Death Parade!

And have you seen the new Silent Hill? Like all games in this series after Silent Hill 3, we’re taking a wait and see approach. But Vatra Games is definitely making Silent Hill pretty. Dat fog!

As we look for every little morsel on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Game Informer comes through with details on the combat system. Is there some Demon’s Souls influence in here?

Finally, how cute are these antique Japanese postcards?

  • Grab Bags Are Back!

    Posted: 12/26/2010

You asked for it, we finally relented! Grab bags are back in stock in the Meat Bun store! It’s time to clear space for the next line of Meat Bun tees, so we’re blowing it out. Thirty bucks, three shirts from past, present and previous seasons! (Yes, that’s $10 a shirt!) You pick the size, fate picks the designs. Some rare, some unreleased, some sold-out favorites.

    Get your grab bag now!

  • A Merry Christmas Roundup

    Posted: 12/25/2010

Did you get what you wanted for Christmas? If not, maybe we can help with an end-of-week round-up of Twitter and Facebook chatter.

You can now pre-order the Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds special edition from Capcom’s online store, which not only gets you a rad Meat Bun designed comic book cover — Shinkiro helped, of course :) — but the rare “Waste of Flesh” t-shirt we created for the game.

In more fighting game greatness, this amazing zero hit combo video from Super Street Fighter IV looks more like fireball infused dancing than a proper street fight.

In other great videos, the latest Fez trailer is here, with animation from artist Paul “Snack Attack” Robertson and Adam “Canabalt” Saltsman. C’mon, Fez, you can do it! Release already!!

If you’re in LA next month, don’t miss Gallery 1988 and OMG Poster’s Multiplayer show, featuring great limited edition prints of video game inspired fare. We’ll be there. Will you?

Finally, is this the best way to recover from a sprained ankle? Yeah, probably.

If you aren’t already doing so, be our Facebook pals and follow us on Twitter, where we talk about this stuff on the daily!

  • Choose Your Waste Of Flesh!

    Posted: 12/12/2010

We’ve received many requests for our Marvel Vs. Capcom inspired Waste of Flesh tee, which has never been officially printed. But our Shuma Gorath versus Servbots tee can soon be yours! Capcom will be offering the tee as a limited time bonus to anyone who orders a copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds through the online Capcom store. Since you were going to buy MvC3 anyway, it’s kind of a win-win, right? Right.

For the record, Waste of Flesh will be your bonus gift, whether you purchase the standard edition or the limited edition. Given that the limited edition features Shuma “He Who Sleeps, But Shall Awake” Gorath as a free DLC character, the decision probably won’t be too hard.

Here’s the hard part. You’ll have to choose which colorway we’re going to print. Head over to Capcom Unity to help us decide.
